Somewhere along this road before the spring of 1820, and for some time afterwards, many of the people of the surrounding areas gathered to listen to Methodist preachers in a spirit of religious revival.
In the summer of 1830 the first missionary of the newly organized Church of Christ traveled the road that passes in front of the Tomlinson Inn in Mendon, New York, located about 25 miles southwest of Palmyra.
